Superfood is a term that lately has popped up more and more. But what is superfood?
Superfood is foods that claims to have super or extraordinary health benefits. So that means that its not just a couple we are talking about here, there are many, and you can soon loose track of what is good for what. These are in general whole, natural foods that contains various amounts of vitamins, minerals or antioxidants. The name “superfood” is not commonly used amongst nutritional scientists, there is no legal definition to this group of foods, the name first started out as a marketing tool.
As said earlier, superfood is not just one or two things, it is a whole lot of different foods, and they also do not just fall under one category, there is a spectrum of food categories. But most of them are fruits, vegetables, grains, seeds, healthy fat, meat, poultry or fish.
