Hearty, Healthy Gløgg-mulled wine minus the wine

This picture shows the most common bought “gløgg” in Norway. But I have of course made my own this year. Gløgg is common in Scandinavia, but also in countries such as Germany, France and Belgium. When we lived in Germany, there was not one Christmas time without Gluhwein. In English this is called mulled wine.  It is made with cloves, cinnamon, and served with almonds and raisins (goji berries is also a good option).  It is just fruit juice with a lot of spices in it.  Originally it was red wine that got added spices and honey to make it drinkable again.

Gløgg is a dark spicy drink that goes hand in hand with Christmas.

1/4 cup (1/2 dl) blueberries

1 tangarine/clementines

4 anise stars

zest and juice of 1/2 orange

14 oz (400 gr )raspberries

3.5 oz (100 gr)  black currents

0.5 gallons (2 l ) water

1/2 cup  (1 dl) palm sugar

2 cinnamon sticks

10 whole cloves

1 little piece of fresh ginger

1 tsp cardamom

Put everything in a large pan, and bring it up to boil. Let it simmer for about 1 hr. Sift the juice and serve or pour over in a bottle.
